SHEEP GO TO SLEEP

Austin had our big SCBWI Conference this month. This means that not much gets done in the way of painting, but a lot gets done in the way of preparation.

One of the highlights for me was meeting David Caplan. He is an art director for Harper Collins. He is a genuine man with a great sense of humor. For me, that goes a LONG way. I had to put that in there just in case any of you ever get a chance to meet him. He’s a good guy!

Every year at this conference, the illustrators are asked to do an auction item. It’s great because the money raised from the auction goes to creating illustrator events. Every year I do one and quite frankly, look forward to it. Each illustrator is given the same object to decorate. In years past we have had birdhouses, wooden frames and boxes. This year we were give a small, wood plack. For some reason, when I saw the blank piece of wood, I saw a sheep jumping, running, having fun. Without real thought, I purged the sheep from my mind onto the wood and honestly, I just loved him. I loved him so much that I wrote a story about him and am currently working on it. So, here is my crazy sheep.

Sheep! Sheep! jump the fence
running off
makes no sense
just make the leap
to number four
and I wont bug you
anymore.

Talk about waiting till the last minuet to post my blog. I don’t know where October went!!! Happy Halloween!!!

  2. Hey Christy!

I LOVED your sheep. It was the one block that had a clearly defined purpose, not to mention how adorable the little sheep was!
